Autumn in The Four-Legged Mother's Heart

So you were having your lunch in the restaurant, at your apartment complex, due to this partial lockdown. Its the same restaurant you had been visiting for the last month as there are not many options available.

You had the wrong meal. It contained prawn--which you actually love but not your stomach's favorite. It was the second protein there, after the chicken.

But the main protein was not good. It smell so awful that made you think it was an unhealthy one, may it be dead before the butcher (ayam tiren), or just being too long in the keep.

You didn't have the heart to complain to the old lady who was partially recovered from the cancer. Learning from your late-mother, cancer patient should not be psychologically burdened as it may reduce their good immune against the bad cells.

And then, you found your way out to settle the situation. A cat that you often meet around the apartment complex was coming to the restaurant.

So, you brought the chicken to it. The skinny strayed cat grabbed it from your hand fast. But then it went away with the chicken in its mouth.

After paying the bill, you went straightly to your room for work. As you passed the park, you found the cat there. She was not alone, as there were three identical brown kittens finishing the chicken while the mom awaited.

If Darwin saw this, he might be surprised that his 'survival of the fittest' principle in some parts is irrelevant. Animal doesn't always act by its survival instinct. But in this case, love instinct.

If she wanted to survive only, she should have finished the chicken for herself.

In Islamic perspective, you recalled your teacher (ustadz) ever said that Allah's mercy spreads to all living things, They abide by Him and exalt him (tasbih).

"And there is not a thing except that it exalts [ Allah ] by His praise, but you do not understand their [way of] exalting." (QS Al-Israa:44)

Is it the mother cat's way to exalt Him, by delivering rahma to its kitten, contradicting the law of nature that Darwinist hold the most?

***

If you are a parent, you will most likely defy the law of nature of being an egoistic asshole, scientifically dubbed as 'homo homini lupus.'

And the parent's love, especially mother's, is so far the most sincere love you have ever testified so far. She delivers you life, gives you everything to support your life, and doesn't give up on you.

As you have been in the ups and downs in 30 years of your life, you figure out what is the most meaningful in your life. Its not the fame you gain, the wealth, nor the sparkling role in your society.

It had become clearer when you thought that it was about the end your life. When you struggled, alone, against this virus--God knows what it is--that had similar symptoms to the pandemic.

In that situation, what matter to you is the love that you have got. When you feel like its gonna be your end, the lavish lifestyle, the fame, the food don't really matter at all.

Seriously.

What's memorable for you, what makes you feel so grateful to be in life and about ready to leave everything behind, is that the fact that you have been loved, been cared, been being so important, so meaningful, so relevant to other.

Also the fact that you are somehow connected to this special person, not through algorithm, IP address, but through a special feeling, wirelessly connected to chemical based spectrum of energy in your brain.

Yeah.. This mumble usually comes when you feel like you don't know your future. When your government is so shitty that you don't know whether you have the virus or not, while you are always longing to meet your mother again.

And, as your mother told you to always be honest and sincere with your words, then you tried to do something that you ever said to do.

It was like impossible. But in that situation, you got to do it... though it's not perfect. Your word is your bond. Leave no bond so you can be truly free heading back to Allah.

This instrumental tone, somehow, calms you. It makes you recall all the love you ever have in your life, during your autumn.

Maybe its what in the mother cat's heart, that afternoon, that makes it feels beyond alive.
